river walleye

i would like to know is the rule of thumb when fishing for walleye in the river ,if you hook one there will be others in the area,and should you put out a market where you got him...and which would be the best way to find these fish????drifting????fished a few years for eye's in western canada but thats like sunny fishing here !!didn't take much to catch them..thanks to all that help..
