I'm looking for advice on lodging for a few days in July. Is there any advantage in New Town over Parshall? How about maps? Thanks in advance.

I would have to say that if you stay in New Town you can fish either the Van Hook Arm or the river. It's about the same distance to either ramp. The water is very low and there are shallow submergerd islands that you can run up on (found this out first hand) in the north end of the Van Hook Arm. Lot's of fish in both areas, when I was there last week it stormed and then the wind blew for several days turning the bite off. It should be heating up again though. Van Hook Bait and Tackle has an excellent report for that area, and New Town Marina has the report for the river. Hope this helps....

Thanks Dutchman. Are the maps available fairly accurate? I'm new to the big fluctuations of reservoirs and I guess I'm a bit paranoid.

As far as water levels on the maps it's constantly changing, but they are accurate as to location of points etc. The local guides are quite helpful to put you on fish. They have free maps at the bait shops that I use that are really helpful and fairly accurate. Hope this helps and good luck.

I was down there yesterday on my route, the bite has picked back up. Catching nice size walleyes. Will be busy this weekend with the tournament there. Newtown would be a good place to set up camp. If you need any ph#'s, let me know.

Take care,
