Just wondering if anyone re-paints crank baits to come up with your own colors. If you do, what would be the best technique to do so? I have roughed up a few with sand paper and sprayed them. Seems to work ok. Any better ideas?

Thanks

another good way to paint cranks is with magic markers. also try finger nail polish remover, sometimes it will take the original paint off. another thing is to mark the crank with a marker and then rub some finger nail polish remover on the marker it will smear out and make some neat colors.

Sand, Spray with two LIGHT coats of primer, then spray 2 LIGHT coats of white so that the following colors will be brighter and "truer". I say to spray light coats because they will stick better and won't run, and allow plenty of time in between coats to dry. I also get a base coat color on and then spray the next color from a distance to give it a spattered overspray look. You can also lay seining netting on the bait and spray overtop to get a scale pattern. Then when you are done spray with multiple LIGHT coats of clear with plenty of dry time in between. Have fun. (but don't do it in the basement, it will stink up the house for days)

Scuff them with ScotchBrite. Prime. White base. Then have at it with whatever colors you'd like. I use an airbrush with Createx airbrush paints. Then clear coat. Envirotex is a great, tough clear to use and is available at hobby and craft stores.

Better to have and not need than to need and not have!
