How much leader is usually ran between lead core and the lure? Also curious what #test. 10#?

Depends on how you want to use the lead core. I have two reels with 10 feet of mono, attached to 10 colors of 18lb lead core then some super line backing.
And one reel (one more to come) with 50 feet of mono then three colors of lead core then mono backing, this to match the trolling charts in the precision trolling guide. I use 12 lb silver thread for all the mono, because it is the same diameter of 10 XT once again to match the trolling guide. I am not much for having to do math when I am in a hurry and adjusting depths to reach the fish.

Although I often have to do a lot of math when fishing guests are not so considerate. Try converting a reel that measures in yards and using 12lb fire line and the reel is not accurate because it is not filled enough to boot.
I did that for a week on Erie!?!?!?!?! :-(

To be honest I don’t use lead core much I tend to use snap weights most of the time. Mostly because trolling snap weights and lead core at the same time normally results in tangles. This is because lead core follows the path of the boat, but mono, with snap weights, tend to follow a boat like a trailer.

And many of the people I fish with do not have lead core set-ups. They do work well if trying to get close to the bottom on snaggy bottoms. Nothing to get caught and tear off like a snap weight.

I normally run about a 10 ft length of mono leader sometimes longer if the waters very clear and I think it's affecting the bite

Previous posts are right on. Use shorter leader length for staying close to the bottom (like when contour trolling) longer lengths for open water. 1 more thing :
lead core reacts to speed changes slower than snap wts. If you want a faster drop as a trigger go with a snap wt close to the lure (maybe only 6' ahead). Also lead core because of it's large diameter is speed sensative and the depth gained drops way off as speeds increase. Most guys only use it at speeds under 1.5 mph. Good luck
