I was hoping I could avoid buying new reels, and purchase a couple of snap on line counters. Has anybody used these without problems? Where can I buy them at?

Shakespeare has received good reviews from those who have used them.

They work good. A very good alternative to avoid the expense of costly reels. Be careful if you use the clip on style. If you bump them they could fall in the lake. The Shakespeare brand tightens up on the rod and is better than the clip on style. Both styles are accurate because it measures the line as it passes thru them. The amount of line on your reel is not a factor then. I used both for years but eventually bought the 27LC reels. I still keep 2 in the boat in case I use a reel without a counter.

I've had pretty good luck so far with the Shakespeares as well. Even seem to work fairly well with Fireline.
Have used the Shakespeares for 3 years now with good results
