I'm heading to Petenwell this weekend. Never fished it before. Is there a suspended bite or is it more a traditional bottom bite. Don't want to waste too much time trying if there isn't. Any help would be appreciated, Thanx.

Yes, there is a suspeneded bite. The firsat thing you need to buy for trolling Pettenwell is a lure retriever. Otherwise it is going to be an expensive weekend.Look for 15' - 20' of water and submerged trees showng up on your locator. I usually run baits 9-12' down. A variety of baits will work; Shad Raps, Mann's, Wally Divers, & Hot N Tot's.

Rule of thumb is if it is sunny do not bother jigging.
Spend some time marking the channel. It is hard to follow and it gets very shallow outside the channel.
You can jig or rig the bends and edges of channel also.
Hope this helps,
Scott

Thanx Scott, When you're talking about the bends, are you talking upriver toward the dam or in the main lake basin?

Arty if ya can't find the eye's on Petenwell both myself and one of my tournament partners guide on this huge flowage. We can show you the consistant jig-pitching bite and some exciting options for trolling. Lawrence E-mail me at ecklor@hotmail.com

Lawrence,

I didn't now that you spent that much time over there. We will have to touch base before my trip over there. I have spent alot of time over there with limited success. Ice fishin' is awesome but summer time I struggle.

Bear that's why pool 9s gonna be so much fun in June and July I spent all summer long last two years at Winnebago,Green Bay or on the Wisconsin. Had a blast there last year. To many 2-4 lbers to count in that water but they move alot and early afternoons are often much better than daybreak or sunset. E-mail me when your ready to go over to Petenwell

There are a couple of big bends in the river in the upper part of the lake that I have caught fish on. Normally it is very snaggy so you need to stay vertical when jigging.

Good luck,
Scott

Lawrence ,

I see you guide Petenwell . Do guide Castlerock as well ? My brother has a place on Castlerock and would be interested in learning the lake better .

Thanks

Pat
