Father Hennipen on the SSE side of the lake by the town of Isle is another option ya! Where ever you decide to pitch your tent, you better get on the stick. Or you might have to find a nice ditch somewhere. :-)
Check out Castaways 320-684-2380, they have tent sites. Also great food and protected harbor.
If you are going to be tenting near Mille Lacs - bring lots of bug spray. ALso, if you have a screen house - so much the better.
If you are out on the lake, with a bit of breeze; it is just fine.
However, most of the camping and other areas near the lake are rather low lands - and the bugs are going crazy just now.
During the day the bugs aren't bad; but for an hour on each side of sunset - it is best if you have everything buttoned up.
Take care and enjoy the lake.

Hi...
Mille Lacs...awesome! I love that lake....what a fun, great fishery. When there earlier this year, we stayed in Kathio State Park. I notice that someone already mentioned that location; but just wanted to put in a word for it as well. It really is absolutely gorgeous there. They also had log cabin rentals there which were awesome. It's a beautiful campground, with friendly people and clean facilities. Close to public launches and close to the Holiday gas station that I think Paul Meleen runs, and that has a huge selection of fishing gear, etc.
Have an fun time, good luck fishing!
