I've read on this board about the existence of a dive curve reference book apparently produced by Rapala for their crankbaits. I have checked the Rapala web site for information on such a reference book to no avail. There wasn't any contact information either (telephone or email). Can anyone advise on when these Rapala dive curve reference books will be available and how one can obtain one? Thanks! Jay

Go to your local tackle shop and buy a copy of the Precision Trolling Handbook, gives all dive curves based on 10 lb. test mono. and of course a well tuned crankbait.

the book is called the tackle box guide. it is just going out to stores now. i talked to the people at rapala who put the deal together last week. i hope to have them in my shop in the next week or so. they should sell for around $8.00. pt is a great book and a must for anyone who trolls cranks, but it doesn't have the tail dancer lures in it yet and the rapala book will have all rapala dive curves in it.
good luck

MH:

Thanks for the reply. I purchased the 6 th edition of Precision Trolling last year. However, it doesn't have all Rapala crankbait dive curves (e.g. Taildancer, Jointed Shad rap) and perhaps others. Consequently, my rationale for trying to find out how to get the Rapala book. Jay

Another thing you could do if you got an hour to spare is just get in the sand or on a clean stretch of tapering shoreline and come up with your own dive curve. I had to do this with shad raps to figure out a curve with 17 lb. mono. took about an hour to run thru the whole line.

Thanks for responding. As I said to MH, I have the Precision Trolling book. I contacted two local fishing shops this morning. Although they seemed unaware of the Rapala Tackle Box Guide, they promised to look into it. Jay

Rapala book is out and it is excellent, Congrats to the boys at PT they did an excellent job. I especially like the fact that each lure not only has dive curves for trolling but also for casting, Although this was done last year and the #5 tails hadn't been released yet I am sure they will be out in due time, #7 and #9's are there, also all shallow cranks or casting lures are there for trolling, Complete details on how the numbers were acheived and complete info for various line diameters, although main charts are done with the most common selection of 10 pound Trilene XT. This book is 78 pages long and is about 3.5" square, perfect fit for a tacklebox. Now that we have that maybe someone knows who PT. is working with this year for next years detailed book? Maybe Cotton Cordell? Not starting a rumor here but If anyone from PT. reads this I would be happy to assist in getting the details worked out, maybe version 7 of PT will be this size and available with laminated pages?!!!!!reberly@new.rr.com Once again thanks for the excellent product. It came in very handy this weekend for the #9's on Winnebago!!!!!

Here's what's in the new book:

Down Deep Husky Jerk: DHJ10, DHJ12
Fat Rap: FR05, FR07
Husky Jerk: HJ06, HJ08, HJ10, HJ12, HJ14
Jointed: J11, J13
Jointed Shad Rap: JSR05
Original Floater: F05, F07, F09, F11, F13, F18
Shad Rap: SR05, SR07, SR08, SR09,
Shad Rap RS: SRRS04, SRRS05, SRRS07
Shallow Shad Rap: SSR05, SSR07, SSR08, SSR09
Super Shad Rap: SSR14
Tail Dancer: TD07, TD09

Trolling was done with 10# line (.0134 dia) and casting was done with 14# line (.0150 dia). You'll have to buy it to find the dive curevs :P Plus. it's got some tips in it, along with a line conversion chart. It's worth every penny of the $8.00!

Dave.

I learned from Rapala today that the new Rapala Tacklebox Guide will be able to buy on-line at rapala.com by mid-July. No doubt, by then, it will be available in more tackle shops as well. Jay
