Radio's

I am considering two way radios to replace the Cobra's that I recently lost. I am wondering if the VHF marine radio's are the way to go or if there is something better. I would want to use these point to point on land and water and am curious what the details are regarding where they can be used, licensing and distance. If anyone has any feedback please share. I am looking at the Hummingbirds that are available for about $100.00.

Marine VHF radios can only legally be used on bodies of water, use of them on land is illegal. The fines from the FCC for misuse are stiff, it is not something you would want to risk.(the FCC moonitors VHF frequencies with regularity)
