How often should I have my Liqualube hubs looked at, or serviced? When I look at the hubs, they are pretty much an opaque black, & I can't see the level of the oil.
I had a leaky seal replaced a couple years ago (oil appeared on outside of hub)--otherwise, they are fine, and are not hot to the touch, even on a 90-degree day.

Liqualube recommends changing the lube each year. This is good if you tow lots of miles. I've gone to every other year and had no problem. It's normal for the liquid too turn brown or what you call opaque black. If the caps are really turning dark and you can't see the level of lube, I would disassemble each hub and really look closely at all the bearings. If in doubt replace them. Wash the inside of the hubs, replace the seals and of course put in new lube. I've never had this problem with any of the many sets I've installed but there is a first for everything. This should take care of your problem. If I can help further-just ask.

Thanks much. . .I'm going to have dealer look at them during annual preventative maintenance visit over the week of the 4th. They run cool, so I believe they'll get me there.
Eyewinder, I'd suspect that the dark color of the Liqualube is due to a higher than normal amount of residual grease from the original install. I just installed Liqualubes this year. I wonder if after several "oil" changes the lube keeps it's red color longer due to dilution of residual grease/contaminants? Maybe someone who installs and services them knows this answer. In other words, why does the red lube turn brown or in your case blackish?

Can't really say why the lube turns brown-only that it's normal. If the system was installed properly there should not be any of the original grease left in the hub. This is an important step because the new lube will not mix with the old grease. The lube will turn brown and it will do so after only a couple trips. The lube can absorb up to 30% of its own weight in water and just makes more lube. Pretty neat stuff!
