Hi,
I had recently purchased a Remington 700 SPS DM .270 for deer hunting from Cabelas that came with a scope (not sure on the make , it has an R on the adjustment caps), I am having a **** of a time to sight it in. I am pretty sure it is the scope, so I had just ordered a Leupold for it.
What I am asking is, does anybody else have a Remington 700 SPS DM (any caliber) that is having the same issues? I find the bolt to be rough so I am hoping it will get smoother the more I use it and there is also an issue with the magazine, it is a four shot magazine but after firing the third bullet and ejecting the casing, the fourth bullet also ejects with it. It will not stay in the magazine so that I can chamber it.
It is a nice light gun, and it does not kick, but in my opinion it is a pile of junk. This is my first Remington and probably my last.
Sorry, I am just venting because this gun is being a pain in the butt!!

You do have a very good rifle. If its brand new get it back to the dealer a for a magazine replacement as the bolt should not be hanging at all!! If it was purchased used have the gunsmith look at it, its something minor. The scope should have been bore sighted at the shop to get it on the paper but you have to find out what type, power and proper adj. procedure for tuning. Have seen some incrediable accurate long range shots with that rifle and a 3x9 fixed.

I have heard of this before. It does seem as if Remmy quality is falling apart. Either way, i would have a smith look at it and determine the issue. Personally i wouldn't buy a new remmy no matter what but that's just me.

The scope is most likely the problem why it won't stay 'locked' on. Since this came as a package deal the scope is not of best quality and is almost a 'freebie '. Some package deal scopes may be brand name and you would see the difference or its marked and would perform just fine. But good move on getting a Leupold. While your at it get some new rings to be sure you have a good solid mount. You can get some Millet's and the price won't break you either.

As to the bolt and magazine problems Cabalas gunsmith should fix that unless is a factory issue and they have to send it in.

Thanks guy's,
I put the Leupold on it last night and what a difference in clarity compaired to the scope that was in it. The eye relief is also way better. I put the gun up and right away I can see through the scope completely. I will get out in a day or two to sight it in. I am sure it should group better. I did get a set of Leupold rings for it as well.
My father has a freind that does repairs to fireams so I will get him to look at the magazine and see what the issue is. Hopefully it is just a matter of adjusting the spring inside.
