Just realized I used 2 cycle oil in my Mariner 4 cycle. Is this the cause of my smoking when trolling. I have been using Quicksilver 2cycle any suggestions. Automatic oiler.

I think you are in trouble. 2 cycle oil in a 4 cycle engine, me thinks that is a NO NO.

How can a 4-stroke have an automatic oiler? If you mean you have a separate oiler pumping 2-cycle oil into your fuel line, then you haven't done any damage-- it just provided a little extra lubrication and probably carboned up the plugs a little. But if you put 2-cycle oil in the crankcase then you could be in deep hooey.

Lots of manufacturers recommend premixing the first tank of gas with 2-cycle oil when breaking in a 4-stroke, so I wouldn't worry if that's what you did.

Good luck!
