Save your money, buy a Cabelas Pro Guide series.

I would highly recommend you go for it. I have the 6' 2" light action with a Stradic 1000 and I absolutely love it. LOL Fred

The 2 power rating on the rod you mention is the right one if you fish primarily 1/4 & 3/8th oz jigs. If you use 1/8th oz more you should go to the 1 power 721 781 etc. If you fish heavier jigs most of the time (like 3/8ths or hevier) the 3 power would be a more correct choice. Now this is coming from a guy who used to throw up to 3/4oz weight forwards on a SJ721 day in and day out. So the rods will talerate the heavier wt. lures. The 2 and 3 power rods will give you more control on large fish, but the trade off is that they of course are heavier and you do not have as soft a tip which make casting easier. All the Spin Jig (SJ) rods are very fast tapers, and have alot of power 1/2 way up the blank.(hook sets are like slamin them in the screen door) Use the weight of the jig and the size of the fish you encountrer most of the time to make your choice, especially if this is your first Loomis. SJ rods and the walleye jig rod you mention are very very similar. Enjoy the rod it will help you became a better fisherman. Good luck , or as Gary Loomis would say, " Tight Lines"
