Picked up a NIB Mossberg 535 combo (rifled slug barrel + Turkey barrel) for a really good price. Gonna be doing a lot of "drive" type hunting this year so my scoped 30-06 just isnt gonna cut it anymore. Was planning on shooting the 535 with open sights, problem is i really dont like the stock sights and they are really hard to see. Was looking at the tru-glo slug gun sight kits but read alot of bad reviews on the fibers and mounts breaking. What are my other options as far as replacement sights?

i looked into red dot sights but after getting the gun drilled and rails put on then a decent red dot its just not worth it.

Hello: I would have the gun drilled and tapped for a scope mount or see if you can trade your barrel for a barrel that already has the mount on it. and put on a low powered scope like a 1x4 . With a 1x4 you will get a big field of view to help spot Deer coming through the woods. I would also get one with a lighted reticle to give you an aiming point when its darker out such as early morning or evening when its cloudy . That's what I did and I am very happy with my setup. Good Luck O - R

Karas,
Knock the scope off that 300 Savage, pick up a box of ammo and carry it on a drive and shoot open sights. It's one of the shortest, most accurate "brush" guns around, and it's a very instinctive shooter. For under 60 yards, open sights will offer a quicker sight picture, follow up shots are pretty quick, and it'll hit plenty hard with 180 grain soft points. Ask me how I know. Dad's got a 300, I've got the same gun in a 308. I'd never shoot a slug gun when I can shoot a rifle.

We hunt some non-rifle areas as well....

Forgot some areas are shotgun only.
