Last spring I bought two Daiwa 27s and two BPS Gold Cup linecounters to compare. So far, have used them each about 30 hours trolling with boards. Thought I'd post my findings for those interested. Have used them for coho on Lake Michigan as well as for walleyes on Winnebago. Caught a number of fish. Biggest fish on the BPS was a 10 1/2lb. northern. I have concluded that the BPS is a pretty solid reel. Drag works fine, as do all the other features. Flawless,in fact! We'll see how it holds up after a few years, but for the moment I have no problem recommending it for those anglers who don't want to spend the extra bucks for a Daiwa. For $79, in combo with a Walleye Angler Signature Series rod, its a great deal. The rod is nice also, however for some applications I prefer a softer action.

Thanks for the observation. I haven't seen the BPS line counters up close, but in pictures, the BPS line counters look like rebadged Shakespeare Line Counters. Did you find that to be the case?
