I'm going on a trip to Leech Lake in the first week of July. It's going to be my first time fishing the lake and I was just wondering if anyone could give me any tips on fishing the lake or information on the lake. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you

The nicest campground on the lake is the forest service campground at Stoney Point. The main lake is subject to gill netting by the residents of the Leech Lake Reservation. My best luck for walleye has been at the mouth of Portage Bay. Most fishermen will be in Agency Bay in July. Largemouth bass are found almost everywhere there is a weedbed. Listen to weather forecasts. That big shallow lake gets really rough in a wind. Buy a map. There are reefs that are shallow enough to rip the bottom off your engine. You can navigate almost the whole lake by keeping track of Stoney Point, Bear Island, and the bird sanctuary island.
Chris, fished leech for seven years in a row,and Iam going back in theyear 2001.July should be great for bass and perch rock bass also might be tough for walleyes, fish the weeds with slip bobbers, and leeches, and you might catch that big one. Follow the schools of perch, because ol marble eyes wont be far behind. Goose island, ottertail point littlehardwood, are great places to fish.Dont be afraid to fish the shallow bays ,pleanty of northern pike to steal your bait. The weather can change in a heartbeat.Take sunscreen.sunglasses,
and water and asprin with you, save the beer for later.Night time is great for trolling with rapalas, but usually Ikick back and guzzle the beers.Buy your leeches by the pound in walker,
its less expensive to do it that way.Great fishing!
