I have a small aluminum boat with a 6 horse motor. I would like to troll close to shore at night and on calm days when Lake Erie permits. I am also going to Canada in August 3 hours North of Toronto and we will have access to a boat. I need to know what lb test would be used for trolling for walleye and or Pike and how exactly does the line attach to the dipsy diver, is a leader needed/ Could a 7ft baitcasting rod handle this type of trolling? I need a thorough explanation. Thanks.

Dipsy's connect to the live w/. a swivel of some sort usually, and right before the swivel end of the dipsy is a like a rubbery tube on the ones I use! Then all you need really is a snap swivel on the rod your plann'n on using. Rod size I couldnt tell ya! A little bit of a stiffer rod works alot better then anything ultra-light. Depends really on the size of the dipsys and what bait you would be using behind the dipsys. If you have any other ?'s just holler! Good Luck!

Tonyc,
Go to www.boatohio.com. Click on "Ask the Expert" and do an archive search on "Dipseys". ETT (Jim Stedke) is probably one of the best dipsey trollers out there.
