I broke my G Loomis IMX rod today while fishing. I paid about $200 for it last year. Does anyone out there know if Loomis has some kind of guarantee? I'd like to send it back with an explanation.

You have two options. You can send them the rod so they can determine if it broke do to abuse or a mfg defect. They will replace the rod on there discretion. Second, For about $50.00 they will send you a new rod, and you send the broken rod back, no questions asked. Great rod, not a great warranty. I went the $50.00 route. I figured it would be quicker. Received the new rod within a week.

use to work part time for a big sporting good chain and had to deal with G Loomis all the time and every rod that I sent back was replaced at no charge. they are a good co. to deal with

I also broke my IMX this spring- setting the hook on a fish- and I took the pay before and send the broken rod in after route. Its fast although the Loomis lady assured me the other way would be reasonably quick also. I couldn't wait. The interesting thing was that she told me Loomis warrants about 800 rods a month.

My IMX broke three years ago at the tip. I sent it in and recieved a new one for shipping charges of $7. Last year the same rod broke while setting the hook. I sent it in through a sporting goods store. They called me a few weeks later saying it would cost me $89 to replace it because it wasn't a manufacturers defect. I called G-Loomis and complained. They dropped the cost to $50 plus shipping. That doesn't seem right. You spend $200 for a fishing rod that probably cost them less than $30 to make and then they charge me $50 to replace it. They make $ both ways. I have $30 rods that have never busted in ten years. Why does a $200 rod bust twice in 4 years? I'm not very happy about it. And i vow to never buy another again and to make sure that I do not recommend them to others. It's just not worth the cost.

Loomis will warrant defects, and they usually occur in the first few uses of the rod. Breakage after a year is usually due to nicks in the blank from wear and tear. They make some of the finest rods on the market and for jigging, and rigging they are my first choice. The rods Loomis makes are as sensitive and light as possible while being as strong as possible. Gary Loomis states in his catalog "I can make a graphite rod you can't break but you won't want to fish with it." As for not breaking 30 dollar rods in 10 years, I have broken a lot of rods and blown up a few and they all break, none are not prone to that. As well, some other manufacturer's rods are churned out by the thousands in China and the Loomis rods are made in Canada and the US, the labour cost is reflected there too. Chris K

have broken at least 12 imx and glx rods in the past five years they are very delicate. ron at m and r custom rods makes my rods and takes care of replacing them sometimes its 50 dollars plus the custom work sometimes its free. i fish quite abit and obviously have bad rod handling techniques. it is a pain dealing with these rods but i would not jig or rig with any other rod.
