I have not used a trollmaster before and I am wondering where is the best place to mount the control unit?
Also, is a tiller model kicker preferred or is steering with the kicker connected to the big motor better? Any advice is appreciated

I have a tiller-mount kicker linked to the main motor for steering. The Trollmaster control has a mounting bracket on the console next to the steering wheel. The cord is long enough to carry the control anywhere in the boat.

Keep in mind the control is not waterproof when you decide to mount it. Mines mounted next to the throttle and I just lay it on the dash when using it. If it's going to rain, I unhook it and put it in a storage compartment.

I like mine at the helm. I have a remote steer and mount mine to the dash next to the steering wheel with self adhesive velcro. Then you can remove or move where you want. I guess I have not worried about the moisture thing but maybe I should.

Trollmaster's quality and customer service has gone straight down hill since Bill sold the company.

Never knew Bill but heard great things about him and his company before he sold it.
However, on a long shot, I sent an email to the new company a week ago under the "contact us" link on their website asking if they had any used or refurbed trollmaster pro 2's for my particular kicker motor. 3 days later (I contacted them over the wknd) I got an email saying they did have one for my engine. He listed all the details about it, the price (which was half the cost of new) and a name and number to call if I was interested. This particular fella was friendly and polite. He even adjusted the 6 month warranty start time so it would begin in June when I'll start using it, and shipped it that day so it arrived 2 days later. No complaints from me at this point... very satisfied. Hope it works!!
