It seems as if unprovoked youth violence is on the rise. Saw a video were a group of youths attacked a worker outside a casino in Vegas. The guy was defenseless and was beaten by this group of 10-15.

In yesterdays paper I read about a series of beatings in the St Louis area. Random strangers are attacked by a group of teens. The article reported this is a trend sweeping the country.

I think our media has promoted a culture of disrespect and violence. Video, movies, music promote a lack of respect of others and a sense of entitlement. I think many of our young are emulating what the media has been feeding.

It's not the media's fault nearly as much as it is parenting....

That older generation has done as good of job raising kids as they did with our country. lol.

What a sweeping unfair generalization that makes no sense (if I have taken this wrong or misunderstand your point please enlighten me). So 200 poorly mannered kids at the mall of america puts entire generations under the bus? Not sure why you consider your point funny either?
Between my 89 year old father, me at 62, my oldest at 35 and my grand kids as well we have done a good job with 4 generations of well behaved and respectful family members.that would never participate in that kind of activity. So regardless of the "social media"that is out there it still comes down to parenting in the end IMHO.

Were there "200" unruly kids around 40 years ago; oh yes. The problem today is the availability of social media such as twitter allows them to organize in a manner not feasible 40, 30, 20 or even 10 years ago like they can today. So it does add to the challenge of raising children that is for sure.

Simply put, the young folks are "hanging out" at the mall, and when "hanging out" without a good purpose leads to this sort of activity.

Folks need something to do, other than to just "hang out" and get into trouble.

Take care

I don't agree, when I was younger our group use to hangout all the time and we never started fights and did crap like this group did. But I was not an intercity tug, nor hung out anywhere near that crowd.

Light rail to the Mall of America does wonders for the Mall.

Sweeping generalizations are common on this forum, I am learning from the founders. This seems to have struck a chord with you. DL

Just because they are common does not mean one has to perpetuate the concept!

I went to that place on opening day and 1-2 other times. Years ago. I swore that place off. Especially since the last gang, I mean 'youth' violence several years back...

Don't you wish just once there would be a squad of Berets or Marines around to teach the "youth" the meaning of "respect" and "beatings".

Seems the "wannabe's" of the world need to be taught a lesson.

Returning servicemen have a need for work.... Perhaps the MOA should step up to the plate, and bring in a few dozen of our nation's best.

Every time I see these youth mob/gang riots on the news the youth all have one thing in common. I'll let you figure out what that is. The same thing happened at the Wisconsin State Fair this past summer.

I also recall that christian group that protests military funerals seem to have one thing in common as well...
