View Full Version : 2150 Baron Magnum
I been thinking about bying a 2150 with a 5.0EFI I/O. This boat will be use on LAKE ERIE so it will see a lot of rough water. Iwas wanting to no how it handle the rough water an how the rivets hold up.

The first year of the Barons, four of them suffered hull damage running in the rough on "the Sak". I learned of it because all of them were taken to my mechanic's shop complaining of engine trouble. They wouldn't run as fast as when they were new. The problem wasn't the engines, it was in the broken or twisted I-beam stringers. Lund repaired them all, quickly.
I work around a bright engineer who owns a Baron. He feels the boat is too wide for running hard in the rough water. His secret to avoiding damage is to close the walkthrough windshield, and watch the gap between the hinged part and the standing part. When the gap starts to change width, slow down. The hull is flexing.

Just read about this one on another board: 1975 21 ft ex-Coast Guard Boston Whaler. Volvo Penta 5.7 I/O w/ dou-prop outdrive. Bennet trim tabs, bilge pump and blower, hydraulic steering, dual batteries, re-powered in 1995, low hrs. No electronics. Needs TLC. with a galv EZ loader trailer. $7000 or best offer
This would be 2-3 times the boat a Baron might hope to be. (baron's are fine, just not in this boat's class)
This Whaler on Erie would be pretty amazing. Spend $250 on a survey..if it's sound snap it up...it's built like a tank and will handle anything Erie has to offer (that you're willing to be out in)
