Am having trouble with my "recently returned from the headquarters" X15. In the sonar setting, it is reading a "smeared" looking picture. It's as if someone poured water on a watercolor painting and the color is running down the picture. I got it back from Lowrance about 2 weeks ago, it worked fine and then this happens. I sent it to them with the same problem. They sent me a new one back with the updated 2.3 version. Anyone have any ideas? It happens a lot in water less than 10 feet, but not exclusively to that depth.

I too am having trouble with my 1 month old x-15mt losing gps signal and sonar signal too. Sending it in tommorow. I am still hopeful as it is a very nice unit when it works properly.

Risky,
During the week when it worked it was awesome. Note I said "WHEN". I am almost tempted to ask for something comparable from them and call it even. Seems like a waste to keep sending me the same unit with the same problems. Maybe I need to calibrate it or something? Help!

Hi Brian
Are you sure it just isn't an excess amount of surface clutter you are seeing? If you only see it in less than 10 feet or there about you may want to adjust the various settings that deal with surface clutter.
I leave mine on with the surface clutter showing. It will vary depending on how much algae is in the water and the bottom composition and so on. I will notice that even with a lot of surface clutter showing, you will still see marks in the clutter. But due to being in shallow water, there won't be many and wont be real distinct. You will rarely see arches in shallow water anyway but we could go into that another time.
If you have any other questions or need more details feel free to e- mail me.
Good Luck,
Chris Gasser

Chris,
I dont think it's the surface clutter. The thing just freezes up for a few seconds at a time, then once in a while will work fine. I've messed with the grayline, sensitivity, things like that and it still does that. Im real frustrated with the thing. Do you have an X15 and does it take some special calibration? Thanks

You have a transducer going out. Did you return the transducere when you returned the unit. If not, then exchange the transducer and everything should be fine.
