I am looking for rod socks to keep my rods neat and untangled in the rod box. Any ideas where to find? Thanks in advance.

The quickest and easiest way - is at the end of your sewing machine.
for about $3 worth of material and about an hours time - you can easily stitch up 5-10 rod socks.

You can go to any material surplus outlet, and get some nice fabric - nylon or similar water proof fabric, and some lacing material to tie the top down, or put on a stretch - loop - to slip over the handle.

I have found that if you just make the rod socks about 5 feet long, enough to cover the lower 2/3s of the rod; that is really sufficient to keep the lines and tips from tangling in the locker. Really no need to cover the reels, since, you just make a bunch of unnecessary bulk.

However, if you want socks to cover the rods and reels year round - or if you carry them in the back of a truck top carrier, or similar semi open area, then you might want the socks big and long enough to completely cover the reels.

I have found that if you just use the 5 foot socks, they will work for both bait casters as well as spinning reels, since you don't have to worry about that first - large spinning guide; if you are just covering the upper tip portion of the rods.

Other than that, you can get them at bass pro, cabellas as well as other fishing outlets.

Take care

Cabela's. I think $6 each. I've had them for 2 years and they really help keep tangles to a minimum in my Pro-V side lockers. A big improvment to the constant tangles without.

www.reelbait.com sells good rod socks at a reasonable price and you can order online. They come in different colors and sizes.

One more source....Bass Pro Shops. I bought them for my Loomis rods to keep them from getting nicked during rough rides in the rod locker. They work great for that and also the tangle concerns. ONe more thing you may want to consider is reel covers. It really keeps them from banging together while in transport.

When you buy 4 or more from Cabelas, they only cost $3.99 each. They do the job on tangles. I just buy the large size for all rigs.

Hint: if you buy a few more than you need, it is easier to rationalize the purchase of a few new rigs to fill those empty socks! Ha!

Stand the rod on end, take the bow of the line and wrap it around the
rod twice or more until very taught, then secure it to the rod by wrapping it around a rod eye. No more tangles, no extra fuss.

Works for me.

I can second the recommendation for Bass Pro's rod socks. I have a few of them and they work well. One thing I felt was the main selling point for me was the adjustable elastic strap that goes around the reel. If I recall the Cabela's version did not have this and it allows you to fit a larger range of rod with the same sock so you don't have to always match a particular sock to a specific rod. Maybe not a big deal to alot of you but it saves me some time putting rods up and they didn't cost any more than the others. Good luck, which ever brand you choose I think you'll like using them.
