Worried?

Heading to Mille Lacs for the first time on Aug 1st-4th and have heard rumors the bite is slowing down quite a bit. Been so excited about what I've been read the past 2 months we can hardly stand it. Never been on the lake, but I guess I'm just a little worried the bite will slow way down. Staying on the North end by Aitkin and have heard that is close to the flats.
What does everyone think, will Mille Lacs be worth fishing then?
Thanks,

Mille Lacs will be good all summer. I was there Sunday and experienced a slower bite than other recent trips. I have read elsewhere others were still enjoying the crazy bonanza bite. This "slow" trip still resulted in 22 walleyes for two people, the SMALLEST of which was 19" (I think we only had one fish under 20" ). So, does my individual experience mean the bite is over? Not likely. I had another day this spring when we "only" caught 21. Mixed in have been 93 and 80 walleye days. I've been on Mille Lacs 10 days so far this season.
On the other hand, Late July into August is traditionally the slowest time on Mille Lacs. But, big days can still be had out on the flats then. This year just isn't a good benchmark to guess closely what you'll experience in August. I just don't see the walleyes suddenly becoming fat and happy between now and then. You'll have a blast!
I sounds like you will be in a nice location to be close to the mud flat bite yet within range of a couple reefs if the wind dictates a rock bite.
I would have to agree. Was up on the lake sun. and monday, caught around 50 in 5 hrs.-4 keepers, 40 on monday-3 kept. Alot more of the smaller fish as well. We must have caught a dozen under the slot. Bigger fish are definetly off the flats..sometimes way off the flats. Still great fishing when you think about it..just not 100+ a day, but who knows by then. Good Luck, and do not be afraid to move and try several flats. They are usually going crazy on at least one flat.
