Heard that there was some big waves and lots of wind last night up on Mille lacs. A lot of boats and docks damaged. Anyone up there have anything to report ?-- I have a shack on the east side and was hoping no damage. Need to know if I need to make an early weekend of it.

Actually there have been storms last 4 days. From what I've heard, all east winds. I know this because I've got damage and I'm on the west side of a lake just north of Mille Lacs. Wind & almost 10 inches of rain since Sunday. No walleye fishin this weekend!

There wasn't a true wind storm at Mille lacs. Being that the area received almost ten inches of rain since last Friday, the lake level is up around a foot in the past week. Early Wednesday morning the wind built out of the SE and, being that very few people had raised there docks and boatlifts accordingly to the rising water, the West side of the lake took a beating. From Wealthwood to South of Wigwam Bay, there was damage to some docks, lifts and boats. The wind blew in the 20's for several hours. No windstorm per say...just lottsa rain, rising water and lack of immediate effort to defend against the inevitable conditions. Your stuff on the east should be temporarily okay, however....docks on the east side that aren't raised will feel the same tormenting when the wind goes into the Northwest.

Thanks for the report-- guess I'll wait till Sat. to go up -- sounds like most of the damage is on the west side. -- Hope the bite is still going!!

Drove down for a guide trip yesterday but had to bag it. First time this year we couldn't get out. The waves were washing in on the west side and knocking boats off their hoists and busting up docks. Lots of damage as several boats were washed up and smashed along the roadside of 169 between Vineland and Garrison. Lotsa work for insurance adjusters.

No,
Typically, the Pioneer Press only posts stories, no pics. They want you to buy the paper.
There was no real story with the pic. Just a few sentences.... I'll quote:
"Oscar Zweig, who lives across from Wigwan Bay on Mille Lacs Lake, inspects his boat, which was tossed ashore after it broke free from the lift on his dock Wednesday. Heavy rain and high winds from the east caused large waves to flood and wreck docks on the western shore of the lake near Garrison, Minn."

wallydaddy,
The east side is flooded pretty bad. In a short drive on Monday, I saw lots of ice shacks, campers, cars, houses under water of a foot or more deep. All of the ditches on 47 were full of water, 2-3 feet deep and running fast.
If your shack is in a low laying spot, be preparred to clean up a mess.

Do you know if Hunters point- Liberty beach area sustained any standing water on the property or just near the road ?

Oh boy!
You know that little stream that flows in the back of Hunters? That was a rushing river. The ice shacks near it were 2-3 feet under water. The entire back lot of Liberty Beach was a big mess. Don't think the water came up over the house runners, but you could not get to any of them without taking off your shoes. The road at the back of Liberty was covered with flowing water 3-4 inches deep. Any house or camper in even a slightly lower area was hit harder.
We had 11 inches of rain from Sunday night to Monday morning on Big Point. It has rained there every day this week. Starting to get the picture?
Hope you are on high ground.....

The last I heard my ice house was in water up past the door. It is at the refuge at flagship on the east side. I hope it's not destroyed. Looks like I will be going back to mille for a few more weekends to come. "darn" We should have her back in action before too long. I hope.

Just be prepared. No sense missing the hottest bite on earth.
