I need to put a trolling motor stabilizer on my minn kota 65ap. Wondering how everyone is mounting them. It will be on a 692. Can it be mounted to the gunwale, or will that be too much pressure on the fiberglass? I am afraid of cracking that area if alot of stress is put on it. My other option is to go to the floor, but then I need one of the ram mounts with the pipe extension because of the distance. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I have mine mounted on the inside-side of the gunnel. (Yar-Craft & PD 65)) The glass is plenty strong to support the motor. This is one of the slicked inventions since sliced cheese!

I used a RAM stabilizer on my last baot and I loved it. My trolling motor used to take a beating in rough water, but the Ram mount made the whole thing very secure.

I mount mine to the gunnel and no problem. You should also consider the quick disconnect mount so you can simply remove the unit altogether in extreme conditions.

The RAM trolling motor stabilizer is just another awesome idea to come from the people at RAM. I think the folks at Minnkota should think of including these with autopilot and powerdrive motors.

I do have the quick disconnect mount. The head movement though on the autopilots is unreal in rough water. Have tried a foam block, but can't get it to stay put. Thanks for the advice.

Some guy told me to buy the RAM stabilizer last year when I bought my boat....I had the stabilizer before I even had a trolling motor.....There is something you have to keep an eye on though. If you're out on the water and you go to loosen up the stabilizer to free the trolling motor...be sure NOT to loosen the knob too far or the entire rig will pop apart..and you'll lose parts! I learned that one the hard way! Anybody know where to get replacement parts?

I've done the same thing, but lucky, haven't lost any parts. It looks like standard 1/4-20 stainless hardware inside that thing. You should be able to get everything, including a spring & a suitable plastic hand knob, at a good, well stocked, hardware store.

Good luck.

The RAM trolling motor stabilizer has multiple uses. When drifting for walleyes with the electric motor in the water, or when trolling with the bow mount electric, I put a RAM rod holder on the ball for the stabilizer that is attached to the gunwale.
