Walleye Queen 02-22-2012, 07:04 PM Sauger Slayer buys powder paint (various pretty colors) sets up the kitchen table to include all colors of paint, his torch, a beer, pair of plier thingys, and too much other stuff that I don't know what it is. The he goes through the whole heating the jig up, dipping it and uses some other tools to make lines and stuff on it. I must say since he took up using my kitchen table as a work space it has really made the table more colorful....instead of a drab old table.

Walleye Queen 02-23-2012, 09:41 AM Maybe next time he needs more paint I should tell him I need a new kitchen aid mixer with all the attachments! For all the stuff I want for the mixer it should only cost about 500 bux.
fishincrazy 02-24-2012, 01:08 PM I can't believe with all of the talk about painting there have been no questions in this thread?
Well I know that a bunch of you folks out there paint including me.Now I only powder coat, and play with fingernail polish but I call it painting.
I like to powder coat jig's and the more I do it the better at it I get.I tried to powder coat some blades but I burned them.
Next for me is an airbrush. Now if one is going to airbrush things do they need a booth to spray in?
FC:huh:
fourize 02-24-2012, 01:28 PM I don't think you need a booth to airbrush. There is always someone at a mall around Christmas time airbrushing t-shirts. Lots of web sites...and i'm sure a few videos on youtube...out there detailing how to do it.

Absolutely not. The overspray is next to nothing. I set the blades on those cardboard artists board, available at Pat Catans for a very reasonable price, and paint away.

Sweet,I've never airbrushed but using rattle cans I get spray all over everything. It's actually funny seeing a SGT Schultz lookin lunatic running around with spray paint all over himself! LOL

Breezer09 03-14-2012, 01:57 PM Guys and Gals,
We make our own jigs, then at a flower shop , buy a pc of
the foam they put flowers into. Mine is over a foot by 3 inches.
Take utility knive and put 4 to 5 lines along the length, stay in at
least 1/2 inch to start. After this you can spread out 10 jigs in the
slits , early morning or before winds come up , outside, we are able
to spray all around them this way, first coat of white always, then
up to 2 coats color of your choice, then we have small ovens and
we put them in there on a rack , up to 50 at a time for 10 minutes
at 225 degrees.
The paint gets a finish thats hard to chip and this way no clear coat.
The rack was designed by my fishing buddy who was an Engineer &
Made out of cheap lay around parts and bolts, with 50 holes to hang
the jigs onto. It is really slick.
I can't figure out how to send pictures back with these reply's ,to
HGT,we have the latest Windows setup, and I have photobucket for my pics,
one of you guys on this site has to have the same set-up and any help
to get lots of my pictures of our short cuts and this rig and oven
awaits help.
Thank you very much,
Keep a tight line,
Pezman38 03-14-2012, 02:14 PM Breezer,
Since you have photobucket, just paste the pictures IMG code into this window. I uploaded the link from photobucket below, the IMG is the bottom one. Once you click it, it automatically copies the link for you. Then we can just click the link to see the pictures.
Or when you reply you can click the paper clip and upload photos. That is what I did to show you the photobucket links.
Breezer09 03-14-2012, 02:32 PM Guys and Gals,
Many thanks to Pezman 38 for taking the time to help me out with this

I use photo bucket all of the time for posting pic's.This is what I do.I take a picture with my phone and save it to the phone. Then I send the picture to my online album provided by my carrier Verizon. From here I email back to myself and save it to my pictures in my documents. Now on WC if you have a picture on your computer you can link to it and post it.just click on the paper clip in the tool bar it will allow you to browse your documents and select your picture.
You can also do this with photo bucket and then follow pezmans post to post the picture.
Hope this helps.
When ever I don't know how to operate my computer I ask my 15 year old.

petewv 03-15-2012, 07:47 AM what did you learn when useing fingernail polish?
fishincrazy 03-15-2012, 07:53 AM what did you learn when useing fingernail polish?
I think the fingernail polish is great.I have to get out and run some blades to see if the weight effects them.On jig's it is awesome I can add eye's and make my powder coated jig's 2 tone with a couple of dabs.I need to find a nice rock pile and see how it holds up.All in all it is a cheap way to add some color to your offering.Try it out.

Breezer09 03-15-2012, 02:28 PM Guys and Gals,
I want to thanks Pezman 38 again very much for the help and also I
thank Fishincrazy for displaying it in detail the way he does it, and I
Printed it all out and should be in business soon.
Note;
I also use finger nail polish to paint 2 coats on all my bullets sinkers
that are 1/64 , 1/32 to 1/16th sizes, I use this $.99 cent polish from
Walmart called bon,bon , red and it has sparkles in it. It comes in a real
small bottle and only about an inch high.
We made lots of extra jigs a while back and my bigger ones just stay in
an upright position so I just slide the tiny sinkers onto the point and push
it into the barb a little, and holds them nice , I lay paper towels on my fly tying desk top, and makes them easy to paint with finger nail polish.
Another use for these tiny bullet sinkers is for any fly fisherman who wants to weight his fly or streamer like fly tyers who put the wt at the tip of streamers or fly's as they tie them, including me till now,
I just slide one off these wts onto the leader before tying my fly or streamer on.

d-max06 09-11-2012, 01:15 PM been making jigs a long time just started to paint got about 50 done used nail polish and a clear coat hope it was not a waste of time but it seems fairly tough, anyone else use it much? i normally just don't paint just use them them with a red hook and good results
patroller 09-11-2012, 05:37 PM I use tough as nails polish on the thread instead of head cement. Never used it on the whole jig but I have used it to make eyes and it seem fine.
