I had been using fireline for trolling but have heard positive reports on powerpro, which line is better for trolling on erie and saginaw bay? and what line test is recommended? thanks
Power Pro is much better in my opinion. I have used both. 30/8 is what I'm using now and love it.

I've switched to powerpro during the last couple of years also. I used 2/10 and works really well for my type of fishing. I will say that at times powerpro seems to be almost too limp at times. If you cast a light jig with a crosswind it seems to wrap around the eye of the rod very easily.
I switched almost completely to Powerpro this year without good results. I too found PowerPro to be too limp for my likes. It's definitely not as sensitive as Fireline. IMHO it is stronger (more abrasion resistant) than Fireline and extremely hard to cut even with a clipper but that's it!
I have ultimately switched all of my jigging and riggin reels back to fireline and kept the extra spools geared up with mono. I have left powerpro on my linecounters and one trolling reel and so far I like it for these applications.
My .02 is that for any finesse fishing, Fireline is still KING! Powerpro wins the trolling applications in my boat.
Good fishing to all,

I switched from Fireline to PowerPro a couple years ago. I like it much better in all regards - castability, durability etc. I use 20/6
on my walleye stick and have landed several large muskies and northerns on it with no problem. I use 65# and 80# on my musky rods.

I'm in line with TJ1N. For casting/finessing I like Fireline better. For trolling, PowerPro. The smaller 10/2 PowerPro is just too limp for spincasting small lures. Ice Fishing, PowerPro (no casting or trolling involved!!!).

fire line seems to be best for jigging with a mono leader 3/4 feet. power pro seems to be a better all around line. myself i tried trolling with fireline and had poor results. it felt like the fish would hit and have the hook ripped right out(i had the rod in my hand)

When trolling with fireline you need to set your drag real loose. I usually use the clicker on the reel as well. I put out the crankbait to my desired depth and while running loosen the drag so that a light brush with one finger causes the clicker to make noise.
Uhm, the light brush is against the line coming off of the spool.
