This coming sat, I will be headed through Chicago to Eau Claire and on up to Duluth and Lake Vermilion. Since there seems to be a lot of difference in gas prices from one area to another, would some of you e-mail me what prices to expect along the route.
We have been paying 1.64 in our section of Indiana. I understand Chicago is over 2.25.
Thanks
I towed my boat from Florida to a spot on LOW near Kenora a couple of weeks ago. The cost for gas, just under 4,000 miles, was $422.00.
Even that was after leaving my boat in Canada and coming home with nothing behind the Explorer. I had to leave the boat up there, couldn't afford the gas to bring it home! Not really, I'll be making a second trip next month and will tow the boat home at that time.
The most expensive gas was in Central Illinois (~$1.70) and Minnesota (~$1.60) with Wisconsin ~$1.50.
I imagine by now and especially in four weeks when I return the price will be up $.10 to $.25 per gallon.
By comparison, last summer the gas bill was $372.00 round trip, pulling the boat both ways. And that included 200~300 additional miles running around Chicago.
Oh well, you can't put a price on a good time! You only go around once.
Try and forget the gas price and have a really great trip.
Later....

You can figure on spending $1.80 to $1.90 a gallon. Big rip-off. I don't care if the Europeans pay $4. They pay $1 for the gas and $3 in taxes. Bend over, buddy. Your war dollars didn't go very far.

I dont care if gas costs $5.00 a gal in the uk. When they go on vacation for a week what does it cost them in gallons, $30.00? If you look at what the average American uses just to go to work compared with those in the UK you will find there $2.50 or so is peanuts. Besides they drive those little cars that get 50MPH. My two cents worth.

Gas in the Chicagoland area and in the southeastern counties of Wisconsin are the most expensive in the area if not the nation right now. Increases of 9 to 11 cents overnight have not been uncommon. Those areas are forced to buy a special re-formulated gasoline that uses ethonol for additional octane and is cleaner burning. You need to get west of Waukesha County in order to get away form this and save around 20 cents per gallon over the reformulated garbage.
Good Luck and enjoy your trip,
Doc
