I talked with Sharon from Judd's Resort at the Sportshow and found out that the walleye slot limit will be 17"-26". Perch are also getting a new limit of 30 with 50 in possession. If those out of state poachers would stay off the lake and if DNR would approve more officers to patrol the problem would never have occured.

Hey Jon,

Not all out of state fisherman are poachers! Im sure that Minnisota has plenty of laid off construction workers who fish Winnie on a daily basis and have a "few" more than their limit in the freezer!!! The resort I go to on Winnie doesn't seem to mind that I am from another state, why should you????

Jeff,
It is true that there is a proposed "protected" slot of 17 to 26 inches on Winnie. The Minnesota DNR is taking comments for a couple of more days before a final decision is made. There is also a proposed reduced perch harvest. That proposal is independent of the Walleye proposal. The DNR is also trying to assign a full time game warden for Winnie to enforce the regulation. As someone who guides on the lake and has fished it for 25 years I think the protected slot is a good idea and one that is long overdue. Catch A Big One!-Tom

According to the MN DNR web page, there will not be a reduction in Perch limits for next the year anyway. I think the Walleye slots are a GREAT idea! I for one would like to see it State wide!

What's the problem? You wanna catch a big one go to Lake Erie. If you don't mind five footers crashing all day long. As far as the Perch I've seen the locals carry baskets outta there. It's time to realize that you can't slam'em every day and not have an effect on the fishing. Sit back pop a top and enjoy the scenery. We'll discuss the netting issue another time.

Now pig, lets not go there about the unemployed. Any one with money is welcome anywhere in this good old U.S. of A. Even you know that. Look at the arrest records and you will find that non-locals are caught over limit more than locals. Its an easy temptation for those that spend there money and feel they can take what ever they want. My feelings are, if you poach, you better not do it around me, I won't hesitate calling the TIP number. I love this lake and the time I spend fishing with family and friends, so, no greedy SOB from Iowa, Minnesota (I'm from MN), Illinois or anywhere else is going to take it from me without a fight. That goes for gill netting and spearing too. Any of you people that consider yourselves sports "persons" should police ourselves, help the fish police, and help yourselves!!!
Remember, H.U.G. your fish!!
Hook,
Unhook,
Go back in the lake!!
