Last year when we were on Green Bay the MWC requested that you carry a flare gun / extra flares and have an air horn. They never checked for them, but in the rules it stated we needed one. We bought a flare gun at a shop there and it was pretty expensive. I would definately suggest you get these ahead of time and make sure your life vests are in top condition. Bay de Noc can be a dangerous one to navigate especially with the low water levels and lots of nearly exposed reefs right now- and in the matter of minutes can get monster squalls rolling- just be carefull and prepare for the worse case scenario.

waz; Last year there where voluntary boat inspections in the days and weeks prior to the MWC. The inspection that I know of was at Escanaba Yacht Club launch. The inspection was free, and if you did not meet spec, they did not ticket you, merely told you what was not proper. IF you went on the water, and they inspected you and found the same issues or problems, they would ticket you. If your concerned, search out an inspection. Good Luck Walleye Mike

Waz......The other guys are right, I think the USCG requires that you have some type of signaling flares on your boat when you are on any of the great lakes. Two other things I wouldn't be caught dead on this type of water without would be a marine band radio and my wavetamer. The radio for contacting authorities or other fishermen for help, and my wavetamer to help keep my boat stabilized and under control if I have a problem in rough conditions. Even if none of these items were required, I think it would be foolish for anyone not to have them when out on this type of body of water. Just my 2 cents.......good luck at Bay De Noc....see ya at Green Bay
