Spend some time with your dad. That's the greatest gift of all. Invite him out fishing, then you've got him for the whole day.(even if it's his boat)
Good fishing: Frank

A Leatherman's tool, flashlights, polorized sunglasses, thermos, cooler. The list could go on and on. Try not to specilize or get fishing lures because you'll never know witch one's he'll like so its safe to get him something he can use while enjoying the outdoors.

A good set of raingear.

I second the choice of the Leatherman tool (or a similar, like the Gerber). I bought my dad a Gerber a couple years ago and it has been on his belt since. He has said that it was the best gift he ever recieved. I would also suggest a high candle power spotlight. The new rechargeables are great!

How about a half-day or full-day guided outing on a lake he's interested in but has never fished? Or, even on a fairly familiar one -- he'll enjoy not having to do the work, supply the fuel, bait, and all the other things boat owners must do.

Just don't get him the singing "BASS" thing! Of all the father's day gifts I have received over the years I still have all the hand made stuff. Things with a personal touch last and become real treasures. The leatherman is a great choice too!
Time together is great, and even if he is a stoic old Swede give him a hug and tell him you love him!

Hey Brienna,

I can second the spend some time with him, or get him a guided fishing trip. I also cherish the gifts with the thought behind them, more so than the gimmicky stuff.

Of course, you could also pay off his boat loan....:P

Good luck......R

Would you believe I once got the Ronco "Pocket Fisherman"? -- Many of you are old enough to remember that great TV promotion product. (It was never used -- but, the thought was there.)

Brienna, It may be kinda expensive, but if your dad doesn't have a Gore-Tex - polar fleece sweat shirt, he would love it. They are available from Cabelas and cost about 100 bucks ( maybe mom can pitch in). Most versatile outdoor clothing item I own.

That is a great idea. Just tell me where I can find it!
