I was fishing the M.W.T. on Lake Erie this last weekend. We started to head to our waypoints, when all of a sudden we lost everything. All waypoints were gone!! The graph went blank for a momnent, then it said that some how I had changed the frequncy from 192 to 52.Also it would'nt give me the depth in the digtal box,but I finally got that back. When I got back to the weigh-in a couple of other guys said that they had the same thing happened. What caused this to happen??

For whats it's worth, I heard something last week on the news that Solar flares were supposed to reach their 11 year cyclical high, and the magnetic energy bursts could cause satellite communication problems, as well as incredible northern lights. Maybe this caused the GPS problem. Spaceweather.com has articles about the flares.

Solar flares. Also caused serious problems in some areas for Sat. tv. Peak activity was last week.

I've had this happen on Erie several times over the past year. This last time, I went through set-up again and changed my location from "Midwest" USA to "Eastern" USA. That seemed to make all the difference. It instantly picked up everything and never lost it again.

This week (06-12-2000) as I was driving home in my car, I had my Garmin 48 on (as I always do)I noticed the "fix" was jumping from 12 feet to 135 feet and back again with all kind of numbers in between. I was on an open road with clear view of the sky. I had a strong lock on 7 to 10 satalites. I did not lose any waypoints and the "problem" corrected itself. Just one of those things I guess, with the solar flares.
