2012 FLW Walleye Tour, Day Three - Red Wing; Skarlis Hangs on for Victory and $63,000!
Navionics Pro and Iowa native, Tommy Skarlis continued his total domination of the FLW Walleye Tour stop in Red Wing, Minnesota by bringing in a day-three total of 14-15 beating Brian Bjorkman of Fargo, North Dakota by nine pounds. Skarlis compiled a tournament total of 72-08 between 14 fish; tenth place weighed a three-day total of 34-15.
“This tournament means so much to me on so many different levels,” exclaims the ‘12 FLW Red Wing Champion. “Not the least of these is the simple fact that I have been competing on the Mississippi for many years and this is my first ‘Ol Muddy title. Also having blown 3 majors last season alone, bringing home this trophy reminds me why I have committed my professional life to competitive angling.”
The pattern Skarlis was fishing was certainly diminishing, but he was still able to put 4 keepers in the boat, including one pre-spawn 28 incher that solidified his victory. The weather was a dominant factor all three days of the event, but the fishing remained fairly consistent for Skarlis who was able to put fish in the boat using a variety of tactics.
“With this being the first event of the year and the first event as a founding member of Wild 4 Outdoors, I couldn’t have asked for any more,” he explains. “Even though I had a substantial lead going into the final day, I knew with the caliber of anglers rounding out the top ten, that I had to produce results. When that big fish ate, I knew I had just fulfilled a lifelong dream. Life is good! I also want to put out a HUGE ‘thank you’ to all my friends and family who supported me throughout this event; it was nothing short of overwhelming! God Bless all of you!”
