Recently sold my Maxxum and I really didn't miss it while I was fishing the last few weeks in search of an AP.

3 less batteries
boat looks way better wihtout a motor on the bow
no seat up on the front deck

I know it is personal preference, but is anyone else out there fishing without one?

Thanks in advance,

BRS1

I don't fish without one, but you should get a removable mount for it. That way you can take it off if you know you aren't going to use it. Plus you can take it off when its rough, and you don't have to worry about damaging it.

Slipknot,

I haven't forgotten about the seat pics, it has just taken me a while to get them.

Thanks,

BRS1, I have an AP mounted on a quick disconnect plate and don't always use it. That makes it nice to put on and take off when you do need it. Buck

Buck,

How is the power cable connected and do you have a univesal sonar?

I've seen the quick detach plates, but I never looked closely at the power supply issue. Does the cable come down from the base and just plug in? What size AP do you have?

Thanks,

I have an older AP 65. It does not have the built in sonar. The power wire comes out of the AP base and has a plug on it. So I just plug it in. I think it works slick. Makes it easier to load the boat by yourself when you can take it off and get it out of the way.

What length shaft is on your AP?

Thanks again,

Brian

I am running the 60 inch shaft. If I were you I would go with the longest plossible. On the bumpy days on Erie it pops out of the water once and a while.

I have the removable slide mount and an AP 65 60". Didnt know if I would use it much, but now that I have it, I love the thing.

The best use I have found is for using it as a bow thruster to steer while trolling with my kicker.

Strange habit but even with 2 anchors out that darn trolling motor is moving the boat around, sure beats lifting anchors in shallow waters and deep drop backs. I have used them to float bobbers out away from the bank of the transom, set on lower settings you can do this for hours. Removable seat and removable trolling motor walla.

i will always have an electric on my boat. i use it for steering while i'm handlining, and with the sidefinder i can mark and steer over fish like this. when planerboard troling in windy condtions steering from the front is sometimes easier. when trolling spinners speed control with my electric is better, annnnnnnd when i'm on erie and the wind is blowing that third motor gives me the security of knowing that i'll be able to get back to port.
