I was watching someone use embossing powder to make birthday cards and was wondering if the same thing could be done with power paints to make stripes or spots. That is apply glue where you want the powder, sprinkle the powder on and then heat. Good or bad idea? I'm new to playing around with this stuff.

I am not sure. I would scour the home grown tackle: The wonderful world of jigs section. Those guys are hardcore. The powder paint is activated by heat....I just don't know enough about the other processes.

a few problems i see with that 1) is how the paint will stick to the lead through the layer of glue (when your heating it). 2) when you go to heat the stripe or spot on you will melt/burn the first layer of paint. Im thinking that it prolly will not work all that well. if you want stripes of spots just paint them on over the base powder paint color and then clear coat it.

Guest,
It is easy to spot - using powder coating.

Just heat up the jig a bit, sprinkle on the powder and heat a bit more to melt and you are good to go.

I don't think that cement and powder coating is compatible at all.

Another approach is to coat the head with lacquer and sprinkle the stuff on. As it is drying, press it down with fingers.

I use a sharpie marker to make stripes after curing powder painted jigs. I guess you could do the same if you wanted to put spots on them too. You could also use a paint pen to make stripes and dots too after your jigs are cured.
I have not fished the sharpie striped jigs I have made a lot yet so don't know how well the stripes hold up with long term use = multiple trips with the same jig.
I have not used the paint pens to paint stripes on any of my jigs but have used them to paint eyes on them with decent results.
