I jig with a 6'6" Medium Light Avid spinning rod. I bottom bounce with a 6'8" Avid Medium long-handled baitcaster. I like them both.

I bought identical rods for my wife. She likes them also.

The spinning rod is nice and sensitive for vertical jigging. The baitcaster is relatively light but stiff enough to be able to pull 1.5 and 2.0 ounce weights without a lot of bend.

For "standard" jigging 1/8th - 1/4 oz weights - you can't beat the previous advice.

If you want a great lindy rigging rod - then go to the 7 foot medium light rod.

I jig with the 6'3 med xtra fast excellant jigging rod very sensitive but still has enough backbone to handle the big boys. Lindy rigging I use a 7'0 med lite.

I agree with Lumpy. I prefer to jig with an extra fast tip. I guess it comes down to personal preferance.

I'll throw a curve to the previous while agreeing with a lot of what was said.

I like shorter jigging rods, their 5'9" M rod is an excellent choice. Shorter rods allow more precise control (the longer the rod the longer the distance from the reel fulcrum) and shorter jigging strokes. A rod like this is slighly lighter and better balanced to me.

Where I join the other's advice is in deeper water, say 25' plus. Longer rods then give you the advantage of a better hookset.

Another instance to consider can be lethargic (cold water sometimes) fish, shorter rod - aggressive fish longer rod. Your jig travels different distances.

St Croix Avid series rods are top notch ! This is my first year using the 6'3" med. action with the extra fast tip, and I'll never use anything else for jigging. All my old rods feel like pool cues compared to the avid series rod.

I am interested in the Lindy rig part of this thread. Is there a noticeable difference between the 2 piece and the one piece 7 foot rod? Which are you using?

Thanks in advance,

I have built both the 5'9" and the 6'3" Avid rods. I love both of them for jigging. I recently built a 6' ML Legend series V WOW what a rod that is. As for rigging I believe there is more sensitivity with one piece rods. I myself use the 7'6" = AS76MLXF All St Croix rods are great. good luck.

I've only got one piece rods so no personal experience here. No doubt you lose some sensitivity... How much I can't say??? I imagine in the avid series the two piece is as sensitive as a cheaper one piece though??
