I'm curious if anyone has any ideas on what would be the best adhesive to use to bond marine carpet to a rubber truck bed liner? Would regular marine carpet adhesive do the job or is there something better? Thanks.

You need to scuff the surface and then use a heavy duty 3m spray adhesive on both surfaces. This will be a little tricky to place but it will hold unless you expose it to a mineral based catalyst such as oil or gas. Same stuff they use to adhere laminates to countertops.

What is the reason to make the carpet permenant to the bed of the truck
?

Wouldn't you be better off to free lay the carpet in the truck?

If you wanted to keep the carpet from sliding on the truck bed you could lay in a layer of the rubber matting that is used in the bottom of tool boxes to keep tooks quiet and to keep them from sliding around.
That way, if you needed to clean the truck, or if you wanted to haul rocks, you could easily remove the carpet.

Its not for a truck bed. I bought a duck boat last fall and wanted to quiet the floor of the boat down when you walk on it, its all aluminum. I bought a rubber truck bed liner and cut it to fit the bottom of the boat. I actually used herculiner to glue the marine carpet to the truck bed liner (herculiner sticks to almost everything including rubber). I got it all done and installed. Turned out great! This way if I don't want the carpet in there I can remove it.
