View Full Version : RCL Championship-Co-Angler!
Got a call Thursday from Sonny informing me that I have qualified for the Championship in Red Wing. Wow, what a surprise. I have decided to go, and experience it. I will be in Minnesota, Cass Lake, the week before anyway, and have lodging lined up, and a couple days prefishing set already.
Would like your thoughts on this from the Pro and co-angler points of view. Never fished the Mississippi, so I am not familiar with the types of presentations used there. What can I expect these presentaions to be? Is it ok to prefish with the same Pro each day? Would you try to arrange with a different pro everyday? What is the best way to hook up with a Pro for any days I have open? I think the prefishing part is a fun and educational as the tourney itself.
What about the tourney itself? Is it extreme pressure? More than the RCL qualifier? Felt some jitters the first morning, but I had a blast there.
Any other tips and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Shep
P.S. Thanks Sunshine. You helped in the decision to go. See you there!

Hey Shep,
You'll do just fine! I hope I draw you.
I would assume you could get a list of Pro's from RCL to try and hook up with for pre-fishing. (I already have stuff lined up or I would say come on along)
The experience should be no different than the qualifier you fished as far as pressure....til the last day. Netting a fish or reeling one in get's more interesting when they are worth several hundred thousand dollars( I'm only guessing that, since I only have caught walleyes worth as much as $30,000 lol). The event itself will have more "stuff" goin' on during the week and a bigger weigh-in festivity than at a regular season event. You'll have another "blast".
The presentations will depend highly on what the water level is. HIGH and FAST now. All typical river stuff is fair game...from vertical jiggin' to.....as much as I hate to think it.....handlining!
Geez lol
So....good luck! (if you're in my boat only)

Yes I am am also a co-angler. And finding a pro to pre-fish with is easy. Most want extra lines in the water to help find fish.
The last 2 tournaments I found a pro to fish with in the morning at the dock. I would recommend this approach as it is much more fun meeting someone new.
I also want to find a different pro every day. I have learned many fishing techniques this way. And met some great guys. Hmmm haven't fish with any girl pros yet though!
One other way I have found pros to prefish with is to stake out a gas station and ask them when they bring their boat in for fuel. And if they have someone already don't forget to ask if they know anyone.
Since I am mostly a lake fisherman you'll have to wait until after the tournament before I can help you with river fishing!

Steve,
I hope you draw me too! Then at least one day, we could tell each other "good luck", and actually mean it! LOL.
As far as pre-fishing, I still need to work out a few details with a buddy of mine, and when exactly I will be arriving. Right now, it looks like I'll be leaving Cass Lake early Sunday morning. I'll post when I have my plans firmed up. Thinking of leaving the Lund Phone number for the pro's to call if they are looking for somebody to prefish with. Good idea?
As far as netting, or reeling in a fish, with that much on the line? Thanks for the added pressure! LOL
Rick,
Hope to see you there. I'll say it now, while I mean it. Good luck to you. Hope you get some great pro's, but not quite as great as me.
Looking forward to it. Gonna be a good 2 weeks for me. Big muskies on Cass(hopefully), and then the tournament. I'm really pumped for this!
