NathanH 06-13-2012, 06:33 AM If you can get 10 folks count me in.
fishincrazy 06-24-2012, 06:24 AM OK HGT Jig makers we have 4 who have stepped up to the plate.Trust me this is painless and fun.Just think you'll get 10 quality hand made jigs with custom colors from people as serious as you are about your fishing and tackle craft!Let FC know what you think,is this a bad idea for this site?Post your thoughts.
FC
I think it's a great idea. I've been involved with jig swaps a couple times on other sites and have never been disappointed. Maybe some are worried about getting ripped off or something? It is a bit of a leap of faith in giving your address to total strangers BUT it's a great way to get some cool stuff that catches fish and learn a thing or two in the process. The best part for me is I like seeing other folks creations.
I suggest a cut off date and whoever is in, is in, and we can go from there. If we end up with 4 guys then send 8 jigs = 2 apc. Maybe have guys post their color preferances too?
fishincrazy 06-24-2012, 10:09 AM 2 you are right.I've been involved in swaps pleanty of times and there is always a cutoff date. How about 8/1?We'll give it a month and see if we can add more folks if not we'll do it with 4 guy's.How does everybody feel about this?Let me know.
Thanks,
FC

The oppurtunities are endless!!!BTW Good Deal Saskat!!!!

Pezman38 06-25-2012, 08:55 AM Fishncrazy,
I don't make my own or I would be in, just wanted to caution you. What if the 1 jig you receive is the hot jig and you lose it?
Perhaps you should up the quantity to 20.

That would be the story of my life!!Murphy's Law is my mantra,so I expect to lose every single one.
20 works for me but I think for the first time we will go with 10 just to get the ball rolling.
FC
Well FC , then I aint sending YOU one if all your going to do is lose it. LOL Kidding of course. An 8-1 end to the swap sounds good to me.
Re: Losing a hot jig. If it comes to that I am more than willing to make more if somebody would like a few more of the jigs I make. I would also be willing to send unpainted jigs if anyone in the swap would prefer to paint their own. That's the cool thing about jig swaps = it conects you to guys who have the same interest in HGT making.
Also, to those involved with the swap, do any of you have color ,weight or hook size preferances? The reason I ask is in past swaps I have received stuff in colors or sizes I will probably never use.
I am planning on making 1/4 oz heads with a 1/0 hook for the swap. Is everyone cool with that?

Sounds good to me!Maybe we should have a standard?Like nothing more then 1/2 oz size 1/0-3/0 hook something like that?
Let me know what you think...............

locomoto 07-02-2012, 11:16 AM I'm doing some 1/4oz. Flathead Jigs with a #1 Gamakatsu Hook and tying some craft fur dressing. I will also include a handmade stinger using a red #10 Gamakatsu treble. I can't guarantee you'll stick a fish but if you aren't careful I can guarantee that you'll stick your finger.:rock-on:
Bob/MN 07-03-2012, 04:14 PM Count me in.
saskcat420 07-03-2012, 10:23 PM I'm using a 1/4 oz ultra minnow jig with a mustad 1/0 hook. I hand pour the jigs and powder paint all the jigs. I dont know how to tie yet because I just started pouring and painting jigs only 2 months ago. By the time christmas rolls around I will be tieing like crazy. I promise!!!!! Hope everyone is ok with a painted jig.
Don't sweat it sask. I am doing plain old (painted) jigheads too.
fishincrazy 07-04-2012, 01:01 PM Hey Guy's I think anything a member of HGT makes will be better then anything you can buy!!!I look forward to getting this swap rolling!I was going to make some football head jig's haven't figured out what color yet,or if some plastic might come with.Only time will tell!

As of yet there are no preferences on what you bring to the table.Bob all are welcome if you'd like to be involved jump right in.If you think we need to have a standard please by all means speak your piece.
Thanks for posting in the swap!!!
FC :rock-on:
Bob/MN 07-11-2012, 02:16 PM Just a suggestion: What ever condition jig you submit you receive. This would be the fairest to the people who submit a fully painted and dressed jig.
Example: I can cast ten jigs in less that 10 minutes depending on the head . If I paint and dress 10 jigs I am looking at somewhere around three hours or more.
NathanH 07-11-2012, 02:50 PM I dont cast jigs so I will be dressing a jig. I think folks should do as they please. I won't say with what as the surprise is most of the fun
Bob/MN 07-16-2012, 09:18 AM Put me on the swap list. It looks I will be # 7.

Bob/MN 07-21-2012, 09:09 AM Jig Swap suggestion: It would be nice to post the components of the submitted jigs such as:

Since I craft all my own jigs I like to hear what components are being used by other people. This way I learn from other crafters how things go together.
I don't believe in reinventing the wheel. :-)
I don't mean this to sound like a dink Bob so please don't take offense :) but how about waiting until we get what we get in the swap before asking questions? That way we will all have jigs in hand for reference for a post swap Q & A if anyone has questions, suggestions or future requests.
How does that sound to all involved in the swap?
Bob/MN 07-23-2012, 08:47 AM Sounds OK with me.
fishincrazy 08-06-2012, 03:41 PM So We need 3 more guy's/gal's to complete the swap. What do all of you think?I guess we could do a 7 way swap?Let me know what you think.
FC
Bob/MN 08-07-2012, 08:58 AM It is fine with me.
10 (or more) would be nice but it doesn't really matter. I am fine with whatever number of folks who sign up.
fishincrazy 08-12-2012, 10:32 AM 2XL you gave me a thought I mean 14 jig's are the same as 7 in my book.We could do this with 7 folks and just do 2 a piece this would allow for me to close this thread and start the process of swapping. What do you guy's think??Please everyone respond so we can move forward.
FC
locomoto 08-12-2012, 01:25 PM I'm cool with 7 or cool with 14.
NathanH 08-12-2012, 01:31 PM I'm fine with what ever just need to know so I can start tying
Bob/MN 08-12-2012, 02:37 PM I am good with the seven for now.
Maybe try another swap later in the year when people are not so busy.
saskcat420 08-12-2012, 05:14 PM Ya I think 7 people 14 jigs is fine.
fishincrazy 08-12-2012, 07:04 PM Good deal guy's 7 works for me and 14 jig's is no problem!!2XL didn't seem to mind so we only need 1 to respond.I will PM him.

NathanH 08-21-2012, 10:44 AM I might be dense but dont we need to just send 12 jigs each? I know we have 7 folks involved but we dont need to receive two of our own jigs correct. I dont know maybe it was the Paddy wiskey talking last night but 12 seems like the right number to me.
locomoto 08-21-2012, 11:37 AM I was thinking along the same lines but I haven't had any whiskey in a few weeks.

After I mailed the fourteen jigs I was thinking the same thing. :-(
I figure Jim can keep the extras for all the work he is doing with the swap.
stevensinks 08-21-2012, 02:38 PM Mine are in the mail also. Im all for letting Jim keep the extras.
locomoto 08-21-2012, 04:07 PM Yeah sending two extra jigs won't deplete my inventory. If I could catch one fish for every five jigs in my boat/workshop I'd be in the hall of fame.
fishincrazy 08-21-2012, 08:06 PM I thought of that I will use the extra jig's for a Fall give a way right here on HGT!!!

locomoto 09-02-2012, 12:03 PM I like 2XL's suggestion on waiting for the pics and doing a Q&A.
2XL...don't be too hard on yourself about the orange. I can't seem to get the orange or red powder paint to work out to my liking....it seems to finish rather dull for me.
I've painted a ton of jigs with this orange paint and had zero problems with it. When I painted the swap jigs it didn't fluff up like it used to. I did two tone colored jigs and I don't know if a little moisture got into the orange or what but after baking the jigs the orange drew back exposing a little of the undercoat color. I'm just disapointed with how these jigs turned out vs the way they usually do. Good thing the fish don't care ! LOL

I too made stuff for the swap I use all the time = nothing fancy. That's what I like about these swaps, guys making and swapping stuff that works for them on their home waters. Fancy , plain or in between, it's all good and I appreciate the effort put into each item made.
So don't feel like your coming up short in the fancy dept with the things you made guys because (to me anyways) I just like to see what other folks are making and using. Plus I always seem to learn something new with these swaps. Hopefuly you all get some ideas that make you better jig makers from stuff you recieve too. CAN'T WAIT to see these little beauties!

stevensinks 09-21-2012, 08:10 PM I got home last night from 10 days of trying to take an elk with my bow and had a package with some really nice jigs. I have to tell say you guys put alot more into your jigs than I do. Heck some times I dont have them on more than 30 sec and I lose them. I would really feel bad if lost one that had as much time in them as some of these do. Great job on some great jigs. fishincrazy thanks for doing this. It was fun.
" 30 seconds and I lose them" LOL That's why I got into making my own jigs = the river here eats them like chick-lets.
