I sell leeches on the internet an I advise people not to feed leeches.Leeches don't need to eat to live for the time you'll have them I've kept leeches from may till oct. an didn'tlose any . they did shrink in size from a jumbo to a medium.Keeping leeches in the frig is by far the safest way to protect your bait, rinse once a week an don't try feeding them in a frig. Also people think putting them in there minnow tank is the way to go, thier wrong frig is the only way unless you have a tank designed for leeches. So just fish with them there not pets .Good fishing Tom LOL BAIT

I'm glad I have two refrigerators... one for the wiggly things, and hubby's beer, and one for the food. Opening the wrong container when you're in
the mood for a midnight snack could be a real turn off!!!!!!!

I also sell leeches, in my bait store, I don't recommed feeding your leech's, unless you are going to have them for a long time. Most leech's that are used for fishing are ribbon leechs and are vegetarians, if you were to feed them use well rinsed lettuce. But feeding them causes them to create waste, that is the white slimmy stuff floating in the water, the leech will swim throught this stuff and get strangled. It is a must to keep the water clean, we commend a daily change of the water, and not clorinated tap water.
Others use different methods, but if you are picking up enough bait for a week or vacation ,just keep them clean and cold, feeding is not needed.

Good Luck Pat

I keep my leeches (3-5 Lbs.) in a large cooler (81 qt.) and change the water every couple days. I have a old fish tank airator in it and I feed them dead minnows. I have very hardy healthy bait all summer. I keep it in my garage which stays fairly cool (60-70 degrees). You need to squish the air sacks in the minnows to get them to sink and all you'll have left in a couple weeks is skeletons and gill plates. They eat only dead stuff. If you don't take good care of your bait when doing it this way it can become a very stinky mess.

God luck

Pat I've never tryed lettuce? My dad feeds his leeches the liver from the fish he catches they eat it up in a less then an hour.Ive given him 30# of jumbos in the spring an thier always med. by sept.As for that white stuff floating around it's the casting or the cacoon material thats plugging up the sceens.I handle 5000# a year an they don't spend alot of time in my shop it's intresting hearing how people do things. Thanks Tom LOLBAIT
