Now that we have gotten past the issue of whether this will happen or not, in which it is!! Is there anything else needed for the fish fry, Neal/CO and dkooser have done a great job on planning and I just wanted to know if there was anything else needed to ensure a great success. Where is the main HQ for this get together going to be at for sure, we will get there mid afternoon Friday and need to check in to our cabin and then go wherever the assembly will be, please advise. Looking forward to seeing all of you there.

We need fish! Sure glad a guide is going. I don't do well on an empty stomach!
Hopefully Neal and Dave will reply, they seem to have a grip on things.

The pavilion which is just west of the Whiskey Gulch boat ramp. If your cabins are at the Marina, you'll should be able to see the pavilion from the highway going to them.
From the highway, start looking to the left just after the boat ramp or the first set of guard rails, and you'll see it below.
See you there!

I did it! I caught up with this thing… See, I was on vacation all last week and when I got back yesterday this whole trip had gone bonkers.
First thing was trying to figure out what to bring for Saturday. I started with the list of things people needed and by the end it looked like everything was covered. I guess I can bring some beer and diet pepsi and maybe some sort of dessert? I have (gulp) 2 electric filet knives and suppose that since everyone is volunteering for other stuff, I could clean fish…
Eric, nobody knows me either. You asked whether a side dish was all you were to bring and I take that as an implied, “I’ll be there…” (maybe with a sigh?)
Kevin B.: I for one thank you for your report. I appreciate you taking the risk to post what you heard even though you knew people wouldn’t like it. From the sounds of it, I hope we catch enough fish for a 30+ people fry. To that end, who has radios? We should keep in contact and make sure we keep enough fish. Usually I throw back all but 1, but if one boat starts catching we should keep fish until we have enough.
By the way, my wife will be along and she doesn’t like fish. Do we have plans for that? Since we will have (sounds like lots!) fryers, we could drop chicken…
I still am boatless. I have gobs of equipment, a complete tournament set up for myself and another. What should I bring? I can’t remember whom it was that said they had a boat that could be empty, but I volunteer to take up any first, second, third … crew positions.
I won’t be able to make it until late afternoon – late evening on Friday. I have a big F250 diesel with straight through muffler so if you want I could plan to show up real late and drive all over testing everywhere for the most level spot for the 5ver. I could flash the lights too. Any idea when you think you’ll be sleeping?
Andy, you could ride up with me. I could show you how to run a filet knife!
As for launching, I have never been to (or even seen) Glendo this low. But I have launched from the shoreline. In fact, I did just that during the Memorial Day weekend. (sad statement in case you were wondering) Usually, there are many, many places to launch along the Glendo shoreline. For those that have launched along the shore at Big Mac, the soil is different. At Mac the sand is so fine that once the tires loose their grip you’ll lay your axles on the ground, so you look for sand that is wet and packed. At Glendo the soil is a mix of gravel and sand, when you spin a tire, get out of it and you won’t be buried. If you have 4wheel drive, it will be easy to launch. If you have a boat larger than 17ft, it will be hard to pull out; that’s where we employ the tow straps.
I’ve never seen muddy and airport empty. Wow.
See you there.

What do you mean by "hard to pull out" with a boat 17' or longer??
I just got over worrying about the ramps and now your telling me to worry about getting my boat out!! Please explain.
John,
I will be bringing radios for communicae on the water.

i think what he is saying is that if you have a 17+ foot boat a single truck might have difficulty getting the loaded boat back out by itself. Another 4x4 and tow straps might be necessary especially if the shore is loose rock/gravel. Boats less than 17 foot are lighter and unless launchng with a VW, should be easy to pull out with only the launch vehicle.

Yep, what he said. I could pull the smaller boats out by myself. With the larger boats, the boat would get about half out of the water and the added weight would be enough for me to just spin tires. The larger boats will need 2 trucks to get out.
Of course, if you have a really nice larger boat (and since I admitted to currently being boatless) I might decide that your boat is stuck forever in Glendo and you should just go home. Leave the trailer...

FRS or marine? I have 2 FRS radios (somewhere... I'll have to search)
I'm bringing about a dozen FRS and I have a marine on the boat. We've been experimenting and have been able to pick up the FRS with the marine, but not vice versa (I think). Anyway, that should be enough. If people have FRS, bring them.

Absolutely positively going. Now that I have factual information (that website that shows the ramp and lake levels) I am not worried about wasting time and gas to find out it is non-boatable. I base decisions on facts, not hear-say. I was fishing somewhere all weekend regardless of water conditions.
I was only relaying information and making sure that everyone knew the facts. My intentions were not to upset the group. It was probably a perception problem that started with my written communication skills.
I will be there, like it ever really mattered! LoL.

Let's just hope that your communication skills increase with OUR beer consumption.
C U there. It's looking like Friday night for me now. Wife has the kid at the Dr's as I type this.

If everybody brings what they have committed we should be fine. I think everyone is bringing some kind of side. I think we could use maybe another galon of Patato Salad?
The first wave should hit the beach and secure the pavilion for us tommorrow night! We expect fierce fighting from Wyoming Special forces trying hold back the Greenie onslaught. Bring lots of alcohol, casualties could be high!

The only problem is half the Greenie onslaught is part of the get-together!
Are Appleye and me the only people showing up from Wyoming? That's plain sad.

Well we were going to "go move my partners into their dorms" and just head up there anyway but the parents out smarted us and took the motors to the boats :(. It seems anyway that you all now could use a little seemingly indestructible 16 foot metal john boat to scout launch areas but no can do with no motors. I was going to go anyway and hitch a boat ride but parents decided a teenager driving to Wyoming in a sports car with only two point left on his liscense was asking for trouble (convinced them you all were safe, except for Eric who I lied about :P), and I can't blame them they know that I know my car can do 145 mph sustained and yeah they said they would take my keys if my fishing gear left the basement :(. Have a lot of fun and don't risk the rigs too much.
If anybody has some carpet in large portions take that it would give you something to put over the sand to keep the tires from digging in in a pinch. All I know is that unless I go to UCLA next year there is no way in heII I am going to miss out.

Kick their a-sses. Your bigger than them!
Most parents should only be so lucky that their kids want to be rebellious and go fishing! Oh my gosh. Going to hang out with a bunch of senior citizens is really fricking crazy. Sorry, but your parents need to get their heads checked. Other parents would only be so happy to have to deal with your crazy ways and wants.
Sorry, but ##### your parents are cold and ruthless taking your motors.

Hey Kevin,
We'll be thinking of you in spirit. Appreciate all your hard scheming to get there. Let me give you a little advice from a 38 yr old timer. I remember my youth also (yes, it is possible after all the years and all the beers). Don't be in such a rush. Get those points back. The walleyes will always be waiting for you. Don't be so hard on your parents either; when you have kids you'll understand what I mean. You have to trust me on that for now.
Safe driving,
Lou

Bad advice. He's one of THEM!
Raising parents is hard to do. But don't give up on them. Sooner or later they will stop worrying so much about you. Not that my parents have reached that stage yet.
I'm 27 years old and my parents still make me call them when I get home safe. Although they do worry a little less knowing that I'm in a Deep V instead of my tri-hull.
Maybe they wouldn't worry as much if you got an underpowered truck for a Lund Tyee. No tickets and not as easy to drown.
Wishin' for rain in the 303.
That's right Eric, I am one of them. And I guess I'll have to straighten your *ss out when I get there! Then we'll drink till we're sh*t faced. C U then.

I'm not sure I'd take on a 27 year old like that. I remember how I could drink when I was younger. Now it doesn't cost so much...
I already admit to being an alcohol wuss, and I'm Irish! It's just that I'm 39...

Hey Guys,

I'm fun. That's what I tell myself. I don't care what all the naysayers have to say.
The rest of them? He11, I don't know, I've never met them. I'm going to say my name is Eric until I figure out if it is a group I want to associate with. Yeah, that's the ticket...
Oh, Actually I was responding to let you know that there is mucho camping space and no showers. Everyone's invited.
You probably saw that I was boatless and figure you can show up and sell me a boat. Well, it turns out that I think I have a line on a nice > 17ft (I don't know what yet). But I hear that this guide from Nebraska will be look'n...

See here's the thing, my parents almost don't care, if I actually knew atleast one of you they would be all have fun and what not but they don't. I actaully get a lot of trust and a long leash, for the main part get to do what I want to do when I want to do it. I think their reasoning is the break down factor and the speeding potential for not wanting me to go it alone. As for my friends who's parents took the motors its not the most shocking thing for parents to want to spend time with their kids before they go off to school but its not like this wasn't planned, or that they won't ever come home again, and the Dads don't give a carp, their take was: if it was just me making this decision I'd say if you want to go, go and get it done with. Oh well, don't be surprised if I pop up on friday, then again don't be surprised if I don't, going to try to keep wearing down their resolve, I mean cripes even the girlfriend thinks I should go.

Man, a guy goes to work and look what happens. Just had to reply about the no showers. You can get a shower at the Glendo camp ground for $3.00. Just check in with the office. I always pre-pay and go when i want it's open all night. Not fancy but it's hot and running! Wheels, I found a WY guy to join in so we will be able to handle it.
Sounds like this is going to be a blast. Hopefuly the fish will be in a good mood also!
Should have room for someone on Friday, I should be in around 11AM. I will throw camp on the ground and then hit the water so I will check if so one needs a ride. Lund 1950 so room for two or three!

Thursday morning in Albuquerque and as I suspected I will be making the trip solo (with red/blue chips/salsa/tecate). Hopefully will hook up with EXNJ in the springs.
See you tonight.
This also means I will have room in the boat the whole time.

I'll be up sometiome Friday morning and also have an empty boat. Looks like there will be no shortage of rides for the boatless. We might consider teaming up so we have to launch fewer craft if we've got a lot of people who are alone. That would save time and hassle at the ramp or beach. Just something to think about.
I would like to go fishing Friday, better than work. Got lots of crank baits that never get used. I think now it's time...

Believe me John, I thought about not posting. But I just couldn't do that. For me, it would have been dishonest not to post what I knew. So, I posted under the presumption of the old saw:"It's better to know the devil you've got than the one you don't." I'd rather let everyone know the conditions ahead of time, instead of driving up there like I did, expecting roses and getting thorns. Sounds like it worked out. Everyone has gotten over their anxiety, came up with a Plan-B, and are once again positive.
