Has anyone seen the new V rods from Shimano? I was just looking at a 7' spinning rod, liked the way it looked and felt, but it is 199.99 CDN. For that money I prefer a Loomis or St.Croix. I fish with many of St.Croix's products and like the warranty that accompanies them. Shimano has a "limited" warrranty on their new high end rods, not sure how they will compete on the market. Just looking for different opinions and prices.
Good Fishing,
Hodge

I don't know if this will shed any light on the topic but if I recall correctly Shimano purchased G Loomis last year, so I assume that they are now making the rods for Shimano. If I had to spend that type of money I would probably look to a Cabela's rod or St. Croix. Good Luck!

I DON'T KNOW IF YOU HAVE ACCES TO OUTDOOR LIFE, BUT THEY HAD A GREAT ARTICLE IN THIS MONTHS ISSUE ABOUT RODS ETC. THEY RATED THE SHIMANO'S VERY HIGH IN FACT THEY GAVE THEM A EDITORS CHOICE RATING. THEY COMPARED THEM TO LOOMIS, ST. CROIX, FENWICK ETC. CHECK IT OUT

Hi Hodge, It is correct that shimano purchased Loomis a couple of years ago. The V rod is the first rod that they have put out, Loomis Technology and Shimano production. From what I understand, the Limited Warranty, is for the purpose of not having you try to get warranty when you drive over the rod with a truck, although I have been told form the shmano rep that if the rod does get crushed in a trunk it will get covered. As for St Croix, I found them to be a poor company to deal with, and have stopped dealing with them.
Good Luck Pat btw if you look after your gear you shouldn't need the warranty anyway, manufactuing defects usually show up early in the use of the product. Pat
