View Full Version : Colorado fires and Fort Collins...
According to an news article that I just read at
least one of the two fires sounds like it's not
too far from Fort Collins where the Goldens live.
Anyone know how Scott and his wife are faring????

Hi Ness,
Thanks for asking, the fire is now contained and under control, thanks to a little break from Mother Nature and the sweat of 1000 firemen and women.
I live about 20 miles east of the danger, could see red sky at night every night, scary stuff. It was just over the hill from town but wasn't threatening town, was moving mainly north in the hills. There was some east wind yesterday but it didn't seem to move too much, not as much to burn on the east slopes, western slopes are more lush, or they were.
I feel sorry for those that lost homes in the blaze, I couldn't imagine something like that. I have friends that live much closer than I do, but no one I know personally lost anything.
It's really weird seeing it that close, smoke blackening out the sun at times... too real life for me. :-) The main danger is past now and they are talking about letting people go up the hill tomorrow to see what is left... I wish them all the best of luck and hopes of finding the family home in one piece.

As I sit here I can look out on the Buckhorn fire, at least where it was. We have had steady drizzle/light rain now for several hours and I suspect the worst is over. The winds have died down to < 5 mph and I would guess they are getting a pretty good handle on containment. The moisture has not really been significant; it won't reduce the fire danger but may help solve the immediate problem.
Glad to hear the two of you are safe and that your home is out of danger. Twenty miles???? That's
way too close.. I've always been terrified of
being trapped in a fire. But don't tell anyone, okay????? :-)
