Those final results are a true reflection of how things are at Mille Lacs. In the world I come from...that AIN'T good walleye fishin'. And it AIN'T because the "bite" is that far "off". Quota's? Contracts? More 'band'-aids? Sit back!....and have fun. Or?

or what? trim tails?

Steve
I would like to hear your opinion on why these results are what they are. I value an opinion from one that lives and breathes this lake.
From what I saw, 29 teams,2 days, 20 fish ? I agree, this AIN'T
good eye fishing.
Thanks
Steve

All those results show was that is wasn't good walleye KEEPIN'. The catchin' could have been fantastic!!

Exactly! And "keepin'" used to be a key part of walleye fishin'. And still is anywhere else....

Results such as these stem totally from "band"-aids used to manage the mighty lake in recent years. These "band"-aids, used to close the wounds inflicted on the Indians two centuries ago, only seem to make things fester and worsen instead of healing things. On top of everything, the "band"-aids only get ripped off in the end by a 'certain' part of the Mille Lacs population, instead of leaving well enough alone. The disease, called "selective sovereignty", needs a new curing process. NO MORE "band"-aids.....

Now... I apologize for getting off the original post subject. I'm outta here on this one....

we could only be so lucky if you would stay away from the negative posts you continue to post. have you had fun pulling the "bandaids" off the wounds? just curious. you really have been pretty consistent on opening the wounds.

wounds conflicted two centuries ago... what a sickening, ignorant position you have. once again, reading your post regarding the tribe is totally amazing. you need a history book and a muzzle.

The overall fishing was extremely SLOW. Saturday, two people in the boat for 8 hours we caught --SIX fish!!! One in the slot. On Sunday we caught --EIGHT fish!! But we did manage two in the slot. We were one of the lucky teams to weigh fish because we happened to catch three in the slot. The word most people used in regard to the fishing this weekend was PATHETIC!!! I realize we were spoiled by the fantatic bite earlier where we would catch 40 - 60 fish in an outing. I just wanted to answer the question in regard to the fishing this past weekend. I'm sure some teams caught more fish and probably some less - so they may have a different opinion than mine.

Vickie,

Thanks for acually putting some facts about the tournament in your post. I know first hand how slow the lake is right now. Huge amounts of forage has really tapered everything back to normal. Which is good news to me.

I wish all that forage would die off so I could catch some fish again. This lake is way out of balance... too many baitfish.

I agree with Wannabe. What can be done to get these horrible baitfish out of the lake. Can they be netted? Something has to be done!! (Before you sensitive types get ruffeled, please be advised that this post is just a joke, nothing more.)

Give 'em both barrels, Steve!

Steve, I agree 100% with your view on the Mille Lacs situation. Don't let these people wearing rose colored glasses and their heads in the sand deter you. This sovereign nation farse has gone on for far too long. Keep up the fight for what's right!

Netting or no netting slots are a good thing and should be implemented on more bodies of water. Go ahead and take the slot away stevefellagy and you can have yourself another Leech or Winnie.

Slots can be a good thing when they are set with a biologically sound intent. The slots on Mille Lacs are set for only one reason and that is too keep the harvest weight at an artifically set number.

Have the Mille Lacs slots had a negative impact on your fishing results? Has the quality of the fishing gotten worse since the slots???

It's just a bad time of the year. here in Kansas the walleye seemed to have vanished. Limits of 20" walleye were being caught March-June.....now nothing. It's HOT!!!!!

No, the quality of fishing hasn't decreased (yet) and no , it really hasn't effected my fishing too much but then again I personally tend not too keep fish very often anyway. However, there is an awful lot of the resource being wasted there via hooking mortality etc.

The point I was merely trying to make was that the resource should be managed for biological reasons not political ones.

It seems we just keep targeting the same slot fish and taking them out ,if they were abundant there would be alot more caught. If we keep taking the same year classes over and over what happens ? I liken it too deer hunting a little bit ,shoot all the yearling bucks and your odds of tagging a real bruiser go down drastically.

Well, there has been some sort of slot in place since '97, so the majority of these 20"+ fish were at one time or another slot fish as well. I guess they must have survived those years when they were all targeted, so why would it be any different now?

The reason for the under abundance of small fish are the recent weak year classes the last few years, that's why people are not catching the numbers of small fish like they used to. Weak year classes are mostly a result of spring weather conditions. I for one am happy for the tight slot especially this year with the way the bite was, I don't think there would be a fish left in the lake if harvest was wide open.

Vicki, Congrats to you and Stan for the great finish! IT's always the quiet ones.....:) Looks like you're in great shape to go for the brass ring at LOW in Sept. Good luck and we'll see ya there!

Hey goodbye and sickening, why don't you go jump back in the lake where your nets are. Steve has never hidden his identity or said anything other than what he feels, maybe you should post your names to hold any credibility. I agree with Steve. I fished the lake for the first time of my life this summer and unless the regs change, I'll never be back. Floaters all over, caught several walleyes that looked like they had been swimming around in a sewer pipe, (Skinny and out of proportion with sores). Maybe the slot is a hidden agenda, they are afraid if we eat any of the larger walleyes we will get sick like the fish are!

I hold no ill will toward the native americans, however, this is America, land of the free, we should all live under the same rules, otherwise it is discrimination! Friends of my ancestors could have been the most ruthless SOB's ever to walk the face of the earth but that has no influence over my beliefs and should not affect my rights or the rights of ANYONE else. I am gone...Mille Lacs and Pro Baseball, what a joke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Eyewitness,

Thanks so much!!! I didn't get a chance to talk to you at Winnie, are you going to be able to make it to LOTW? If so we'll see you there.

I can't believe we only have the one tournament left. Good thing hunting season starts :) We'll grouse hunt Saturday morning at our trailer by Winnie and then head up to Lake of the Woods. After the tournament we'll head back to Winnie and hunt that next weekend, and all the rest through deer hunting

Hope to see you and everyone else there!! Vickie
