Hi,
Use a potatoe/gunny sack. Make sure the weave is loose enough so the leeches can get in. I use fish heads in the sack with a rock or two, tie the open end off and toss it into the water. Ponds are better as the scent of the fish atracts leeches from all around while in a creek they only come from downstream and have to work in the current and will take longer to get more leeches.
Some people mention liver and other blood containing organs. While they work they also attract smaller leeches (bloodsuckers) that aren't meant for fishing. The fish heads cut this down greatly.
Hope you catch a bunch!
Roger Mayer.

A friend of mine traps them in Minn. He buys leech traps at the bait shop.

I've often heard of northern anglers using leeches but never have seen them in Kansas. Is there a substantial population of leeches in the southern states ?Thanks, Glen.
