I knew i would get someones's attention. I am trying to get an answer on a question which no one seems to know.
I have a T42 Motorguide Electric w/ normal clamp connections. Does it hurt the motor if you connect the cables backwards (red to - and black to +)? I did this inadvertantly the other day and the gears ran just the opposite, 5 for R and 2 for F, which would work great for a backtrolling situation. Any help would be greatly appr.

No the motor is designed to run in both direction.

Big Vic,

It will work o.k. but if you do a lot of backtrolling you are better off to turn the head on the motor. Usually it is an easy job. Just remove the nut and bolt that holds the head to the shaft and turn the head 180 degrees, re-install the nut and bolt. You might want to take the top of the head off and make sure no wires are snagging up while you do this. I would think it would be better to hook the motor up properly. Good Luck. I'll keep an eye out for you and the BLONDES!

Nice approach to getting some help. We take the nut and screw out that secures the shaft to the head and rotate it 180 degrees. That way you wont have to reverse the polarity.

good luck and tight lines.
