When I stop my boat and I am just sitting there, I appear to get uniform and consistent lines across the entire screen. I have a 7820 stand alone model and was wondering what could be the problem?? When I am moving, I don't seem to have this problem, could it be a fish, or electrical interference?

If your not moving, and there is a fish or some object below the boat, it will appear as a stright line as the echo keeps coming back and then starts to scroll. I rememeber before I got smart eneough to turn off the "fish id", it would look like a school of thousands of fish. With the id off, it's just a staright line. If the fish or object moves, you'll be able to see that. The only time I have seen straight lines is when I'm anchored. If your drifting, the fish will move in and out of the cone.
