I tied my harnesses with 17lb Berkley XT, and the spinner wore through the mono, and the beads chaffed also. I wanted a long harness so I could wind it on a swimming noodle for storage. Any suggestions on materials. I will use plastic coated wire if I have to, but would prefer not to.

Try using the plastic quick change clevis instead of the steel one.

If the spinner actually wore throught the mono your not changing line often enough.

I agree with fishguy. I tie harnesses with line as light as 10lb trilene and have never had a spinner chew through the line. I prefer the fluorocarbon lines now and use 14 and 17lb line with no problems. I retie often tho. I use those swim noodles too and tie enough harnesses to last a couple of outings.

A fishing buddy of mine tied his without using a clevis for the spinner blades and they cut the line very quickly. I use both plastic quick change and the metal ones on ten lb Berkly XT without that kind of trouble.

I used a plastic quick change clevis. The small bead I put under the clevis to use as a bearing for the clevis and blade appears to do the damage. You're saying to change the leader that the harness is made of often? But you find that the mono works!

Jim,

I have been using 20 lb fireline for a number of years especially on saginaw bay. It seems to hold up better if not only option is to retie mono leader every so often

Thank You. I will stick with mono and even try some fire line for my spinners.
