I'm thinking of purchasing a Minn Kota Maxxum bow mount trolling motor for an 1890 Warrior. Basically I have two questions-Is the Maxxum the way to go or should I go with an Auto Pilot? I mainly fish walleye and I also have a 75 pound thrust rear mount motor. I will mainly use the bow mount for casting for walleyes, bass, muskies, etc. The second question is what pound thrust should I get, I'm thinking of either a 65 or 74 pound, will one of these be sufficient? Any info on Maxxum's or Auto Pilots would be very helpful, thanks. Mille Lacs Guy.

Auto pilot is worth the money-wouldn't be without mine---the main benefit comes when you need to tie, get bait etc-the motor adjusts direction and keeps moving-so the other guys can be productive. Seriously consider 24V also, if possible.

Check the archives for posts reguarding Auto Pilots!! My friend personally went through 5 in two half seasons before giving up and getting a Maxxum, which he absolutely loves.

I have an 1890 SC Warrior and am using the Maxxum 54 lb in 24 volt. The motor has plenty of power. I don't believe that motor is available anymore so you'll have to go with the 65 lb. I have owned an autopilot in the past and did not care for it. The main reason is that it did not turn fast enough for me when you wanted to make a quick turn-you decide. Tom Almost forgot-get a minimun 52 in shaft.
